I ain't no Fat Giraffe!!!

About a year ago, Mark & I began a journey into healthy foods. We started slowly with just avoiding High Fructose Corn Syrup and labels that had ingredients we deemed "unnatural" (or just with too many chemical sounding ingredients.) We then moved into buying only Local, In Season & Organic stuff which we have been doing for about 6 months.
Well kids...I have to say that I can totally tell the difference in my health & well being. I have lost about 15lbs. The jeans that I needed a shoe horn to fit into are now baggy. And, this is purely conjecture that it is related, but my allergies have all but disappeared. I don't like exercise and never have so I am happy that just this fairly minor change in diet has made such a huge difference.
I know this is not scientific, but I think a lot of it has to do with High Fructose Corn Syrup...it is in EVERYTHING and the calories really add up quickly. I mean why does it need to be in bread?!?! When I bake bread, I don't add a cup of HFCS?? Come on!!! So when we stopped eating this sneaky stuff, the weight just melted off. How easy is that!! Simple change. But it is tricky because you have to watch those labels. Even hot dogs have it...all of them except Nathan's, but now we go to Findlay Market or Red Sun to get freshie sausages and hardly miss hot dogs at all. We have to make more of our own stuff from scratch to avoid it - like Chocolate Syrup & Salad Dressings - but it is worth it in flavor & calories.
Anyway...just happy to be on the road to swim suit season in a good place again.

Honeybee Hideaway March 2010

Photos from our romantic get-a-way to Hocking Hills State Park. Honeybee Hideaway is the name of the cozy little cabin that we stayed in...very comfy. This was our second trip to Hocking Hills Getaway Cabins and we plan on going back many times of the years to come. We always leave here feeling completely relaxed.

But now back to the grind...

Memory Lane

So today I am turning 35. I have to admit this has been a pretty depressing prospect, but today actually I feel pretty good. I took the day off, woke up at 10:30am to find a beautiful bouquet of flowers in the kitchen left by my man. Now I am reading all the Birthday wishes on Facebook from all of my friends gained throughout the years. The sun in shining and we are about to leave for a romantic cabin get-a-way to Hocking Hills.

I feel good about who I am am and where I am in my life. But I have also been reflecting a lot on the past, so yesterday I uploaded a bunch of photos. Some I posted on Facebook, but this is the whold slideshow. I have tons more photos (mostly of Darci...she is very photogenic!) so I will keep up the scanning and post ASAP.

Enjoy!

Spring Cleaning!!!

I awoke today with an intense desire to clean out the closets, drawers, cabinets, nooks & crannies. Perhaps it is the freshie smells of spring that make me want to organize & declutter. Or maybe all living creatures feel the need to nest as soon as the weather starts to get a little warmer. Who knows. But look out, Mark...I have a list for you too this weekend.

Craving Veggies!!!

http://www.localharvest.org/farms/M23951

Still over a month until our new CSA begins. We signed up with Eaton Farms (of Madison, IN) this year and I cannot believe how excited I am to start.

Last year was just the excitement of doing something new and not fully knowing what a CSA was until we got our first basket. Now I know what it is and I am even more excited. Add to that the fact that Mark & I have only been eating potatoes, carrots, meat & pasta for 4 months and it makes it even more necessary from a variety point of view. I probably have ricketts or some other deficiency disorder from lack of nutrients (not really...I take vitamins.) My tastebuds are BORED with the status quo. They need red peppers, green onions, beans, and TOMATOES!!! I cannot wait!!
Maybe the warm weather & sunshine will speed up the growing season so that I can start eating like an omnivore again.

Need a Get-A-Way!!!!

Maybe because it is cold & gray outside. Maybe because it has been about 6 months since we went to Greece. Maybe it is because I am turning 35 in a week. Maybe all of those things combined, but I really want to go somewhere for the weekend. Pack up the poochies, go to a cabin in the woods, go hiking, hot-tubbing, snuggling. That would be a dream come true.

Actually, I don't care where we go...it would be great to just go. I guess I have spent too much time in the house recently with various house guests coming & going, band practices, etc.
UPDATE
So last night Mark & I booked a "Birthday Weekend Getaway" to Hocking Hills. What a great present. Thanks Mark!!! LOVE YOU!!!
